I fished from 7:30 to noon this morning, on foot, incoming tide. Beautiful conditions, small swell, no wind, and clean lovely water. Foggy too.
I landed one around 8 lbs, and another left me shaking and feeling undergunned. I saw it's belly when it started head shaking and thrashing in 3 feet of water, which is where it hit. It was a broad belly, a #20 plus belly.
Both fish came on a krok spoon, 9 1/2' spinrod and 14 lbs line with #30 shock leader.
I also threw Bomber Long A's and 3/8 oz Hair-Raisers.
I saw two other fish landed and heard of two others. I'll be back for the evening bite, if the breeze stays down, and certainly back for early tomorrow.
I forgot my topwaters but 3 fish were caught this morning on top.
I say it again, it was nice out on the beach!

Stripers from the surf are awesome.  Only caught a couple of them myself though.

Congrats on the nice catches.

Stripers in the surf are a beautiful thing. So much brighter and cleaner than the bay or delta. I think with the long limber rod and shock leader your rig sounds OK unless you get into a really big one in which case 20-25# test is maybe better.

I like 12 and 14 lb line as heavier line reduces casting range and lure action. A Calcutta 400 with a heavier casting stick is my other rig, the big boy rig, still with 14 lb.
I also switched the spin rig over to a perching rig, with grubs, and caught some small barred perch. Missed many.
Fish on!

Very nice Juan, I fish for beach stripers often. This year has been terrible but I have caught fish over 20# and 30# and never use more than 15# test.  I do use a 3 foot leader with 20# test (shocker).  Never lost a fish to a broken line.
