Just bought this year’s fishing, $51.02 where does it stop. Can’t imagine having a couple of kids a paying for there license. Was also told by the clerk that if you do not sign your license your can get a ticket
even you sign it infront of him.

Why is it mandatory to sign it when you buy from a store? Does that mean Fish & Wildlife will begin to require digital signatures when buying online, like I do?

It’s not mandatory to sign it when you purchase your license. I just think the clerk was just being courteous, and just informing me of the consequences if you don’t sign it. I know I have personally forgot to sign  it and fished.

If you have kids who fish, a great gift is a lifetime license. I think back over the piles of useless crap that I recieved for Christmas, birthdays, graduation, etc. everytime I have to renew my fishing license.

I don’t much like the price of anything anymore-which makes me sound like my grandfather, don’t get me started.

It won’t ever stop, it’ll continue as it always has. If the cost of a license contributes to research and maybe more wardens targeting poaching, I’m fine with it. I would probably pay more.

If you go buy a nice fresh fish dinner, it’s probably gonna be more than the cost of the annual license. And you miss the adventure, outdoors and camaraderie.

As far as kids go, they are free for the first 15 years.

Had to spring for Silent Hunters first license a week ago.
We went out and got 3 limits of mussels last Saturday.
That probably covered the price of his license  :smt001

BTW what’s with that avatar vato stance on your tailgate?  :smt044

I like to think of my license going to my favorite charity that pays for some of the resources that I use.

Hawg Trough was broken, just illustrating a “two-foot” long Cabbie on the tailgate!  :smt006

Those are size 12 boots, I think the fish was about 25”.

I look at it this way,  I haven't been to a concert or sporting event in the last decade that cost less than $50 a ticket. For some events, I've paid upwards of three times that. And for what, a few hours of entertainment?

That $50 fishing license comes out to $0.14 a day and provides the opportunity to fish whenever I want for a full year. The value that fishing brings to my life personally far outweighs that piddly investment.

Approximately 22% of CA Fish and Wildlife budget comes from the sale of hunting and fishing licenses. Of all the taxes that I pay every year I think I get the biggest return from the dollars spent on my hunting and fishing license with the work that FW puts into ensuring that we have continued opportunity to recreate outdoors for generations to come.

How much do hunters and recreational fish anglers contribute to the CDFW budget through the purchase of recreational hunting and fishing licenses?
Hunting and sport fishing licenses generated about $91 million in revenue in the 2016 License Year. This includes revenue from specific tags or stamps that hunters and anglers may purchase, the proceeds of which are deposited into dedicated accounts.

How does the Department spend this revenue?
The Fish and Game Code requires the CDFW to fund hunting and sport fishing programs with hunting and sport fishing related revenues. These programs include, but are not limited to, fish hatcheries, fish stocking, wildlife management, management of wildlife areas and other public lands, law enforcement, habitat restoration, and education programs. The CDFW uses other environmental funds and fee revenues to fund environmental programs. These programs include, but are not limited to conservation planning, environmental review and permitting, water resource management, and resource assessment.
