I got to fish yesterday at Bean Hollow with my dad.  It was a little choppy 3-4 feet wind chop but fishable.  Still had to time the sets for launching and landing.  Got two lings 30" about 10-12lb.  two cabs about 8 and 10 lb.  A big 20" black and a big grass rockcod.  And another 12 assorted variety of rockcod.  We must caught and released over 10 cab.  Had a hard time trying to keep the cab from biting.  It seem like there were all over the place.  Wish the limit was two instead of one.  Bait: giant squid tentacles, and mackeral on a 2 hook rig.  Lost a big vermillion at the boat. Miss gaffed a 20 lb plus halibut which shook the gaff out of my dad's hand.  We just watched as our hearts and the fish slowly sank to the bottom.  Afterward, we retrieved the floating gaff with a piece a gill on it.   Next time I am bringing a net.  Would've been an Awesome day if we had landed that halibut and the vermillion.  But any time I get to fish with pop is a good day.

Awesome. Would've been nice to have caught that halibut. Did you catch it on squid or on the mackerel?
10lb cabs are really big. Great day and even greater to be out with the pop.

in the 70-80s I ate so much of it and abalone I got tired of it and fished only salmon and steelhead for the most part

Ark,
The halibut took the squid tentacle.  The cabs were all decent size.  I say out of ten only a couple were about 15" most were over 20".  The ones we kept were almost as big as the lings.  They all came on squid and mackeral about 50/50.

the hair is now feathering itself if you know what I mean :smt028

I've been bringing home a few rockies for the dinner table but the current nanny has a serious talent for making fish unappetizing
