I was just wondering if anybody here has ever had to use their warranty with Ocean Kayak and how it went for them. Ever since I first got my P15 I've been getting water inside the hull, even in calm water. The worst was one day at Lake Mendocino when by the end of the day I had about 1 1/2 quarts of water in the boat.  :smt009

Today I finally figured out where it is getting in. As I was loading my boat the sun was perfect and highlighted a hole in the back of my boat right on the seam next to the screws where a rudder would attach. I sent a message to OK's warranty dept. and I'll probably call on Tuesday to follow up. I'll post back here to let folks know how it goes.

Jay, where did you get that yak?  I might contact the store first.

Funny..  I got a Sunrise P15 at Aquan with a hole just like that.  Ended up taking it back.  They said they could patch it, but i said nah, thanks.   At least they offered.

Hmmm..  did you get that at Aquan?

I had a hole like that on the Prowler I ordered from Cabela's.  I called up Cabela's they gave me the option of sending the kayak back or having OK send me a patch kit.  I opted for the patch kit since they said they would knock off $150, which in turn helped pay for my FF.  OK sent the patch kit out a couple days later.  The patch kit consists of instructions, small square of plastic, and a long thin plastic welding rod.  All you need is a heat gun (I guess you could use a lighter) to melt/soften up the rod and drag it across the hole to patch it up.  It ends up looking just like the seams already on the hull.  It took about a minute for the repair.

Hmmm, sounds like a common problem. The patch kit sounds good to me. I'm really happy with my boat and would hate to have to get a different one, especially since I have already installed a RAM ball mount and two flush mount rod holders.

BTW, I got it at Outback Adventures although it sounds like the problem isn't necessarily related to where it's purchased. Thanks for the input! Hopefully I hear from OK soon after Labor Day.

Man thats a bummer. Now I need to go check our new P15's out for holes. The GF's always seems to have a bit more h2o in it than mine. Let us know how it goes.

My Prowler 13 had a leak in one of the scupper holes.  The dealer, Kayak Connection, replaced it.

I just spoke with Ocean Kayak today and they gave me the option of either getting my boat replaced or they will send me a weld rod kit. I've already installed two flush mount rod holders and a Ram ball, so instead or re-doing all of that work I opted for the weld rod option. Looking at the directions online, it looks like the weld rod will be pretty easy, especially considering the small size of the hole. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with OK's willingness to make it right. Even if I would have wanted a brand new boat, they would have given me one even though I had already cut holes in this one to install my rod holders.  :smt003

I found a leak in one of scupper holes for OK sidekick after 1 year of using it. I could call OK for help. Instead, I chose a simple route - patching the leak with Goop by myself. The patch works so far. I guess repair kit would work better.

The time spent is to locate the leak. After I filled enough water into hull, Leaking appeared.

I would recommend calling Ocean Kayak. They sent the repair kit for free (it arrived after only 2 days) and included directions. It was easy to do, and instead of having Goop fill the hole, the repair kit actually repairs the hull by bonding with the plastic. In the instructions they encourage you to try to pry your repair off with a screwdriver. If you can't then you know you did it right and that it is a repair that will last.  :smt003

Ocean Kayak's warranty service is pretty sensational.

My sister in Oregon had two "yak-board" boats (out of six, total that she's bought for her, her huzband & grand children).....and she had these two for almost a year before she found that they leaked along some certain seam.

So she contacted Ocean Kayak.....thinking, you know, they'd say tough luck & all.....and they volunteered that they had had touble with those exact boats in that exact serial-number-set and they immediately replaced both boats...!!!...
