I'm heading out to the south jetty on Monday morning. Hopefully to snare a crab and fish for anything that hits.

Never fished the HMB jetty before or even crab snaring, first time for everything. Is the South jetty a good place for Dungeness crab or is there a better place to try? How about fishing off the jetty ?

I'm still gearing up the kayak for the ocean, last piece of gear is a shark shield. I also want to check out places for launching for when that day comes for my first ocean trip.

You can hit Doran jetty also.
Personally I don’t think you need to have shark shield to go crabbing.
Practice and take Safty measure though  :smt006

I'm totally afraid of great whites, it took me a couple of trips to the bay to get used to what ever sharks that inhabit the bay. No way would I be able to take my kayak out to the ocean without a shark shield.

I'll send out a fishing report tomorrow on HMB.

I got to the point where ive become complacent with the idea of dying in a shark attack.. I mean.. its better than dying on the freeway on my way to work, right?   Nah, in all reality the chances are so slim its really not on my mind that much.. unless its foggy cold and im alone.. then it gets kinda creepy

I got to the south jetty around 7:30 this morning, a few people out fishing already. As the day went on more and more people showed up, little bit like a zoo out there. Had some guy next to me casting over my line a few times :smt011. too many people for me, Don't think I'll fish off the jetty again.

Fishing report: most of the time spent was fishing with a crab snare , nothing. Casted a jig a bit, again nothing. Talked to a few that had rock crabs and a Dungy or two, they were fishing further down the jetty. I heard its a little deeper further down the jetty, maybe that makes a difference ?

I saw four kayakers out just south of the south jetty, they were setting out crab traps and looked to be fishing near the traps. wish I had my shark shield so I could join in :(  There was one kayaker that stayed in the harbor, he was crabbing. Is there crabs in the harbor worth fishing for?

Gofast, you are hundred of thousands of times more likely to get wiped out by a drunk driver on the way to the harbor.than getting eaten by Whitey.

I went out too, hoping the zoo had calmed... not realizing it was a holiday.

I’m surprised you found parking.

Tried off the beach sorta nearby the jetty for nada.
