Took a "me day" and did some "fitness fishing" today.....trolled 6 miles to get 6 bites and only got to see 3 of them so I'd rate the fishing as slow to fair but not bad for mid day on a full moon.....I'm really liking what I'm seeing this year for fish quality.  Nowhere near the hay days of the '80's and '90's but the fish are healthy and spunky nonetheless.  Tight lines!

Always walk a mile in someone's shoes before criticizing them.  That way when the criticizing begins, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Thanks for the video, it brought back good memories of when we were looking for a new place to car-camp with some young teenagers (they were done with backpacking)  in the early 80's and wound up spending a few days in the area and  at Eagle Lake.  We had no idea it was a good fishing spot, and if I brought a rod, it was probably a pretty light-weight one.
The first morning we wondered why in hell all the campers around us were getting up about 4 a.m.   They were leaving the campground to go to their boats at the marina, so even when they returned later as the wind came up (We'd brought a Windsurfer and just left it rigged, floating in the tules -nice steady strong wind every afternoon!) we really didn't know what was going on, but I think I must have seen some big fish as I walked around the campground, I remember some smokers going, because we got it together and went to the tackle shop and rented a boat and actually hooked a big trout the next morning, only to watch in agony as it wrapped the line around the motor and broke off.  Pretty place to camp. And quiet in the evenings!

Nice video. Hard to tell where you are with the fisheye lens, looked like circus grounds?  I used to fish eagle lake a lot as a kid, grew up in the ‘ville.

I wouldn’t hate seeing you take a couple more strokes before reaching for the rod. Pretty quick on the trigger on the troll. Also seems like you have to reach pretty far with that net, and you’d have trouble landing a 5 pounder.

One thing I do not recall is fishing in a t shirt in November. That’s a new one. Snow on the opener, yes. Tshirts after the lake turns over, not so much.

Very nice! Definitely a place I want to try fishing someday...

Fuzzy Tom, I started fishing Eagle in the mid '80's and the fish were definitely bigger on average and they stayed that way in to the '90's; double digit fish were a real possibility.  As the lake dropped very low a during the last drought the fish got quite small and didn't look near as healthy as they are now.  Water levels have recovered SOME and the fish definitely look better and are getting some size back to them.

Crash, I was just just off Pikes Point, pretty close to the boat ramp.  And yes, I need to bring a different net if I keep taking the 'yak to Eagle; that's actually the first time I have and I got the 'yak in '15.  I usually take the motor boat this time of year so I can bundle up more but yeah...the Indian summer has definitely run long this year.  I agree the bass net just wasn't cutting it yesterday, especially since I'm awkward on my best day!

Enjoyed the video, thank you. Fished Eagle Lake numerous times but only in November around Veterans Day. Think I had three or four layers of clothes on and still froze. Always looked forward to fishing on the lake. Always heard stories about the monsters being caught in the “old days” sorry I missed that part of time . Still a Great Lake. Hope to get back up there again. Don’t know of to many friends that want to fish in November in a kayak. Guess we’re getting older😂😂😂😂
Thanks again

I missed a couple on Denis Pierce's tube flies (trolllingflies.com) in Tui Chub pattern about a foot behind a Wigglefin action disk.   The rest of the bites I got, including all three I got to the boat, were on little 5cm Berkely Flicker Shad diving crankbaits in "slick sunset" pattern, which is hard to find...black/gold sunset is the next best color in my experience.  At 100 feet behind the boat at roughly 1.2-1.5mph they run about 10 feet down.  I normally follow a depth contour and try to stay in 12 feet of water when I fish them, although the last two fish I picked up were at 1pm and I'd moved out in to 30 feet of water (I rarely fish that late in the day up there).

Tight lines.

Thanks for the info!!!  Sounds like you're expert on catching those big boys!
