I remember reading a thread on slow pitch jigging a while back so I decided to share my experience. Buddy and I splurged for "real" slow pitch jigging setups so we took a trip on the Riptide to break them in. Beautiful weather and only 5 people in total (not counting deckhand or captain) on the boat made the trip a real joy. We got on a nice bite early in the morning and finally caught my first verm and bocaccio.

Here's the biggest bocaccio of the day (~220 fow) and the setup in action. Most of the hookups from the day were on the drop or shortly after.

This was my second verm of the day. Smaller and fiestier - caught shallow in 50-60 fow.

Here's a image of the jigs used if curious. Left jig (60g) caught the verm and right jig caught the big bocaccio was sardine color (230g).

The tackle involved in slow pitch fishing makes fishing for rockfish and ling's very fun. Very light rods that can handle alot of fish. I have some catch tickle jigging rods that are amazing. Light enuff to feel bottom very good while Cali Hali fishing and heavy enuff to handle big lincod jigs. I feel it's not necessarily the technique itself

So what rod did you buy? Last year I dropped a few hundred on a Phoenix rod. It’s a beautiful acid wrapped rod that’s super light, and powerful but not as flexible as the Japanese style rods I see on YouTube vids. Not sure if it accomplishes the same action on the jigs. To be honest it doesn’t really work much differently than my trevala rods as far as working the jigs. Except for lighter more sensitive.

Fun is the key word!

The rod is made by Palms. This one is the lightest in their line up, rated for 60-110g jigs. It has a lot of flex even when working light jigs and when hooked up, it flexes super deep into the blank. I've heard good things about the phoenix rods. Though they sound more like a western style jigging rod with more back bone.

I went with the ghost hunter 5’8” acid wrap 300g, goal is to stay vertical, you can always run a lighter jug on a beefier rod but not a heavy jig on a lighter setup.  The heavier jugs will not snap up up on the lighter rods...02 cents :smt006

Correct. I typically don't run over a 4 to 6 oz jig. My heavieat rod is rated for 150 gram and I love the action
