I've been out almost every other day moochin'/troochin'/trollin' for them Salmon now that they're open up here but nothing yet. I had a few takedowns on the opener (July 1st) but none that stuck. I went out early on the 4th and although it was full on Cali weather without a ripple on the sound I couldn't get one to bite. There were about 10 boats out but I didn't see anyone hookup while I was out. Not even a cloud in the sky... wow!

I went to the locks and there weren't too much Salmon yet but the numbers are coming up so hopefully better luck soon. Watching the fish at the locks is fun :smt003

Good to hear your on the water and exploring. How far are the locks from your house? The picture of Richmon Beach below your posting where is that?

Patience Z ...

The fishery in the sound is highly dependent on what migration is currently underway.  Those fish going through the locks are mostly sockeye, and no one has figured out how to catch them in the sound.  The king salmon should get better towards the end of July until late August.  The pinks should be going gangbusters in the same time frame.  Silvers will turn on after that.  Then the chums.

Oh ... one more trick up my sleeve.  Around the tide change, switch up and troll the rips at a faster pace.  Use either your cut plug or a spoon like a Coho Killer or Coyote.  Fish down about 30-40 feet.  And troll faster (2.5 mph).  There are some resident silvers in the 3-6 pound range out there right now.  The silvers have saved many a day for me when I went king-less.

Get your paddling practice in now.  Soon you'll be getting plenty of reeling practice in.

Frank, the pic I posted is the beach near my place where I launch. And the locks are about a 5 min. drive from my place directly south on 5.

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.

Z, I like it! Sounds like what we fishermen go through every now and then :smt002 But then again, there is no "failure" when launching a fishing kayak...coz at the end of fishless day, we still earned a healthy amount of "exercise"  :smt002

Yeah it's good one. Winston Churchill said that a long time back. I like it because it really captures the feeling of wanting something so bad you'll continue no matter how many times we fall down.

And you're totally right about yakfishing!! :smt003 We may fail at catching a fish but the workout and scenery are un-be-lie-va-ble!!! The pic below was last night.
