Quick question - has anyone every had a shark, seal, or sea lion pull your catch off of your game clip? I just started Kayak fishing this summer and used a game clip on the few trips I took without problems, but I am paranoid.  Seems like trailing blood in the bay and ocean would be a bad idea.

I wouldn't describe that circumstance as stealing - more like disaster!

When people trail a stringer with fish in the water alongside or behind their yak, connected securely to their seat and/or the yak, I picture a bull sealion either breaking, swamping or at the very least tipping the boat.  It seems like a recipe for disaster to drag a stringer with fish - I never do it.

“I’m going fishing.”  They said, “we will go with you.”

I picture a sea lion taking the fish with the kayak dragging behind, the kayaker falling overboard and being left behind. Definitely a disaster waiting to happen...

I had a great white shark check out a ling cod I was bleeding on the stringer. I recommend an insulated kill bag with ice or frozen water bottles if you are going to be on the water for very long.

Yup, halibut ripped off the stringer at Paradise years ago. Now a wet gunny sack is the preferred choice

I had a big stellar sea lion steal my lingcod of my line as I was bringing it in...it tore it to shreds about 30’ from the kayak at Shelter Cove a week ago.

Great sad post...

Whoa! First, I’ll be using a kill bag. Second, I’ll make sure nothing is showing. Third, I would lose it if a bull sea lion mounted my kayak. Cardiac arrest might be a part of the tale.  This was a crazy story. Thank you for sharing.

Speaking of great whites. Geez. How often have you come into contact with gws(s) on the water?

Sea lions seem to be real jerks. That sounds infuriating.
