It is something I have been missing and yes it is not smart

Since I’m probably switching over to hobie it’s been interesting seeing the kinds of problems their yaks develop, and since they are mainly making sailboats I never would’ve guessed that leaks would be one

Sounds like it’s not a huge issue but since I spent the last 3-4 years struggling with that problem with my current yak which this season is completely out of commission...

Seems unlikely a TI or AI would sink but water in the hull isn’t a minor thing especially if you are miles from shore or in rough conditions. The kayak the guy I pulled in at Muir was on sank in a couple of minutes and I have to say it was impressive to watch that

Hobie seems like a great company so it’s a little surprising they produce a video on how to DIY their boats so they will be watertight

So far I held out among other reasons to see what happens on the 2020 and the kick up fins alone probably was worth waiting

Mine came with the gasket installed...

As far water in goes, a quart or so on my Adventure for a days fishing in sloppy water, ie, water over the bow and side every now and then, is perfectly acceptable to me. It's a SOT after all without a tight sealing spray skirt. Sponge out at days end. No harm.

I agree that a quart or 2 after a days fishing is no big deal...And 99 times out of 100, thats all it is. But that one day when the shit hits the fan and you are far from shore, watertight integrity can be everything.

I'd make a distinction between leaking through a hatch at a slow drip rate and a slow leak in the hull itself as far as a catastrophe is concerned. The hatch, unless unsecured, that leaks at a given rate, is very unlikely to leak much faster. A crack in the hull that oozes water, even a little, is a different matter. I thought of a wave breaking over when the Hobie center hatch is open to access the tackle box. More than a quart could wash in there. I keep a hand pump within reach because of that thought.
