Keeping it simple is the key.  Sometime a $3 shrimp fly will do wonder.  I am not bragging, but that was what my son used to catch this beauty: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=88995.0

I've been digging the Keitechs swing impact fat lately. But like others said, rockfish are not that picky.

Speaking of big hammer, does anybody know why I cannot find Hot Karl color anymore?

I'm pretty sure they stopped making that color. Maybe give these guys a call though, as they still have them listed online, unlike big hammer's website.

One of my go-to colors for stripers, rockfish, and halibut is plain #55 Pearl. I ordered some loose 5" in that color the other day though, and they're no longer the opaque pearl color that I remember. Instead, they're an odd milky, clearish blue color. Has anyone else had this issue ? Super disappointed, and I'm wondering if they're poor knock offs.

Those are also discontinued items. The new product line are the Tuna Melt, Chillidog, Glass Bottom Boat and the Stranger.

They all produce or your money back guaranteed   :smt001

Thank you guys for all the suggestions. I thought about going yesterday but ended up going to Tomales. Wasn’t sure if the forecast was good enough for a newbie to be out on the ocean.
