I had a chance to get the kayaks out on some very glassy and warm conditions at Van Damme State Beach in Mendocino last weekend. I fished out off the rocks in the center of the bay and then off the bigger rock to the south. Both produced good size gophers in the 12-15" range right off the first drop and we scored 6 total for about an hour and half of fishing. Was definitely hit hard by what I think was a ling on big rubber swimbait, I had second guessed myself when attaching my lure earlier suspecting that the hook looked dull after a couple of seasons of use-next time I will sharpen it or use a newer lure. The next day I dove the same area for my first time looking for abalone, after about 20 minutes I was able to spot one and went in for the "move" to get it off the rocks. To my surprise I was successful and surfaced near my lady on my new prowler 13 for the transfer to the yak, and to immediately fill out the ab card just in case F&G was nearby as I have been told. Another 15 minutes and had the second one safely in the boat and with the wind and swell picking up was ready to get back in for some fresh fish and abalone. Sorry no pics this time. Going out of the S.C harbor on Thusday and will moniter channel 69 if anyone is around.

I could post some pics of my lady coming out of one of the caves out there-quite the adventure. I keep using the rechargeble batteries and end up having them take a dump on me after the first couple of shots. Need to start fresh each time I guess. No excuse for the lack of pics of my ab day, just too caught up in the moment :smt045
