Went out to Salt Point on Thursday and landed several lings. Kept two twin 32"ers and released several keepers and a couple undersized. Not many other rockies, no reds. One copper and one china and a few blues mixed in. In general the fishing was tough. The water was unbelievably clear!! I was in 55' of water and could see the bottom!! I went over what I thought was a whale at first, but then realized it was a huge rock at 55'. Later I dove for abs and it looked like the Bahamas. I could see everywhere. It was like swimming in a forest in the kelp. I didn't have enough abuse so I put in again down at Goat rock by Jenner and tried for some halibut along the beach. Trolled up and down for nadda. Always wanted to give that area a try. Got home barely had enough energy to rinse the salt off everything...

Sounds like a fun time.  Step up the photo production, Jonesz!   Sounds like it would've been a good day for the underwater camera too.  :smt001

Always wondered about launching at Goat Rock.
Is the bottom in the area mostly sandy or is there rock structure too?
It's great when you have one of those rare NorCal high viz days. Congrats!

Abking, I did take a couple pics, but I posted this from work and didn't have my camera. I may post a couple pics early next week. Got a bunch to do before vacation.
Tote, if your going to launch at Goat rock, be sure to do it on the south side. The north side is a very steep beach drop. Good way to get slamdunked. The south break is much more gradual and Goat rock protects for some of the north swells. The bottom is mostly sand, dotted with some underwater rocks. You need to pay attention for the sleeper washrocks. I graphed the bottom and the only place I saw any fish were around the washrocks. I went out to the arch rock, and then south about a half mile or so. Later in the fall the salmon start to show off the mouth of the river. It's also a good place for dungees. I'm not giving up on the possibility of halibut there either. Any place you have sand and some rocks mixed in, has potential.

Isn't there a resident Land Lord at Goat Rock / Jenner?  :smt118
