You can park at this dropped pin and launch right on the inside of the “dog leg” jetty. Easy to wheel right down to the water.

I haven't done it in years, but I used to launch inside the north jetty.  Take (What else?) Jetty Road a ways north of the big boat ramp, across north end, then south along the road on the spit to the end.  More parking, but harder to get down to the beach because of the clumpy beach grass and a little bit of slope.
If you have a sail, it might be just what you want, but in the afternoon the wind can blow into the slough fairly strongly.

Launch from Sandholdt worked well - we were *extremely* lucky to find parking. Note, that folks tend to park blocking entrance to the beach (I saw 3 cars doing it - two at launch and one when we came back). Again - we were lucky to get that resolved.

Other than parking it's a perfect location. Thanks, AlexB.

Kirby Park is "closed" - according to sign. But parking lot is open, so for all practical reasons it should be all good. Unfortunately, there were 157 pier fishermen, so we decided not to dock.

Kids and wife had a blast, we'll be back.

Thanks again for info, all!

Today, we took the Hobies on a one-way trip from the Moss Landing harbor to Kirby Park. It was a super easy 4.5 miles, with a rising tide and a little wind out of the west.

Just posted to say that if you do this in an AI/TI, do not try to go under the bridge with your mast up!

The most interesting wildlife I saw was just as we were launching from the dock...  A boater pulled in and he had 2 huge salmon... Couldn't really concentrate on the sea otters or birds (or even bigfoot) after that...

Thanks for the tip. Looks like a great place to avoid the craziness of the boat ramp.
