I'm working on a project for me and wife, regarding our walking sticks.  I'm planning on inlaying some turquoise stones in the handle of my walking stick and wife mentioned she wanted abalone shell inlaid in hers  Anyone in Santa Cruz area have an abalone shell or pieces of one they want to get rid of?

Thanks,
Troy

Troy, when you start cutting them.do it under water. The dust will injure your lungs. I have been told that the saw dust is really nasty stuff. FYI.

Thanks for the heads up! Would not have thought to do that.  Don't handle the shells at all have no idea bout them.

You can also spray shaving cream on them as you cut. It keeps the particles from flying.

Hey Troy I have been a lapidary artist for years and have worked with abalone. Make sure to do it underwater and coat it with an epoxy when you are done.
