I recently got the 2019 Outback and have been out to ARW and Berkeley. The camaraderie has been great as I’ve met people each time I’ve gone out. I’ve managed to catch two keepers and a lot of lil butts. The keepers where both caught on the Berkeley flats.

I’m ready to try to go out on the ocean, but would like to go with someone with some experience or a group. I plan on participating in some tournaments this year and look forward to meeting fellow anglers. My VHF marine radio will arrive within the next week.

Nine more posts before the site content opens up. If there are any meet ups for tomorrow for rockfish or salmon, let me know. I am experienced with rockfish but have only gone salmon fishing once on a charter.

Tight lines and see you on the water- Kevin

Welcome. I haven’t done any ocean here in the Bay Area yet, but plan to hit Berkley next weekend. I can tell you that after many years living in and fishing crescent city and brookings OR from a kayak it’s awesome. I’m hoping to make the tourney up there next month but even if I don’t I will get up there at least once this year and would highly recommend the area.

I went on a limb, drove to Pilar Point to see if I could meet up with other yak anglers, and it paid off. I followed my new fishing buddy to the rockfish grounds, which was left to where the waves were breaking as we exited the harbor. We stayed out for a couple hours. I got a couple smaller sized brown rockfish and a 22 inch ling cod. My partner end up with two smaller rockfish. One brown and a black.

Parking was free and so was the launch from the beach. The kayak company there was cool, they let personal kayakers use their water hose, and changing rooms.

I just ordered my Scotty Downrigger, so I’m ready when the salmon bite gets hot.
