Humboldt Bay

Fished the entire middle reach of the bay today crisscrossing the outgoing tide from Humboats dock to the Coast Gaurd station. I was drifting for halibut on a lead ball with squid rig. Hooked into a huge clam and cut it up for bait continued the drift to the take-out with not even a nibble. Watched scores of PB's coming in the gate holding up limits of big Kings. They're also having good takes of Pacific Halibut in 200 ft of water. A bunch of 60 lb'ers came into woodley Isle today and yesterday one boat got a 60 and an 80. Current 1st place @ englund marine pacific halibut derby. Kayaks are equally eligable in the derby and biggest halibut wins a shimano Torium reel.

The halibut come into the bay to breed and use it as a nursery for young barn doors. They like it a little warmer so it may be a few weeks till a more successful report emerges.
