So the hobie Oasis I bought used came with a Lowrance M68C fish finder. Everything was included except a thru hull transducer.  Can anyone recommend a good affordable transducer that will put this fish finder back in business?

Also, is this model fish finder really outdated?  Should I consider upgrading the entire system?

Any and all advice appreciated. I do not know much about fish finders.

Transducers are fairly model specific. While a certain Lowrance transducer may work for a few Lowrance models, they aren't anywhere close to universal/interchangeable. For the M68c, it looks like you're looking for the Lowrance 000-0106-48 transducer for $50-60 new. You may be able to find one used for $30ish.

It's definitely an older fishfinder, but I'm not familiar with that particular model so others who have used it may be able to chime in with a review. You just need to decide if you want to spend the money to get that one going or use the $50 towards a newer model.

Thanks chattich. I had no idea the transducers were not interchangeable. Will this transducer fit through hull using the hobie mounting plate?

Oasis doesn't have a transducer mounting plate.  I mounted internally using electric duct seal.

O ok thanks Paul. I though maybe I could buy the mounting plate or mounting kit separately to install.

It doesn't have the hole to run transducer wire outside

I would eplace the transducer with a new one and not used. Povided that it all works properly, rock the oldie then start saving up some $ and in the next year or 2 replace it with a more updated model if you wanted. It depends on you and what you are wanting out of the FF and how much $ you are wanting to spend on your boat. Something reliable with a good easy to see nav/GPS is important if going offshore because fog could roll in quickly and your since of direction goes out the window. Do your research before you go buy a new one. There are many different brands, sizes and modles out there and need to find one that fits your needs. Just some things to think about.
