Hi guys/gals,

My company shutdown for the July Fourth week so I am planning a trip to Juneau Alaska around end of June to July 6th.  Any tips or suggestions from people who been there before about outdoor activities would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sailfish

It's been over 20 years since I was there, so I don't remember any of the names of the waters we fished in Juneau.

The one place I do recall well was Greens Creek, which is located on Admiralty Island. We (3 of us) hired a float plane to drop us off at the outlet of the creek, and we caught pink salmon on 8 wt fly rods all day. They were swirling around in the tide water all around the creek mouth. And we only saw one bear.

In Juneau, we fished at least 3 different streams, catching pink & chum salmon and Dollies. You can hit all of these stream easily if you rent a car. I think all you would need is a decent map, and mark out some good spots to access the streams off the road.

There's also tons of great hiking in the area, and glaciers to explore, but I haven't done any of that.

Visit the Alaska Fish & Game home page, and sign up for the emailed fishing reports for Southeast AK. They post them there too.

Good luck. Let us know how you do.
Bill

Are you doing ocean trips too. In July every species is available.
I will be up there in Soldotna a week after you for a week. Four ocean trips and two flyfishing trips with my favorite guide on the upper Kenai

Go for some black cod (aka butter fish/sable fish) if can. One of the best tasting in my book but you'll be using electric reels for this.

Going with my wife so we'll do hiking/sight seeing mostly and maybe a day or two fishing.

Should be  lots of spots Along Mendenhalll River and Mendenhall Lake. Where you can fish during hikes etc.
Other local Creeks should be having runs around then.  Two inch Streamer Flies and lures in pink do well for most Salmon up in that area.
Have you seen this?
