So I'm getting ready for salmon season! I've gotta couple of extra downrigger for my big boat.  So I modified one to fit the kayak! Anyone else try this? It looks like it gonna work.

Best thing  to do when you can't fish is, get ready  to fish.

Nice! Maybe pmmpete will chime in, as he's got a similar setup.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

For a description of the way I mounted a Cannon Lake-Troll downrigger on my Hobie Revolution, an explanation of why I set it up the way I did for downrigger trolling, and an explanation of how to downrigger troll from a kayak, see http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=12575.msg138905#msg138905.

Because Revolutions have narrow gunwales, its a challenge to mount gear on them.  However, as Captain Ahab has shown, the H-Bar and gear track pair on the 2019 Outback provides a great platform for mounting a downrigger and many other kinds of gear.  I hope that Hobie will make similar improvements and additions to the Revolution.

Welcome to NCKA!

One thing I use on my downrigger is the Shuttle Hawk. Works really well for me. I replaced the clip they have to a Scotty clip which works better for me.

Look how it's used.

That's a sick set up! A friend sold a boat and gave me a new electric downrigger for my power boat so I figured it was time to modify one of the old ones for the yak. I have one of the smaller lake trawlers set ups but those always have me grief using em. I'm excited about putting this to the test! Do u use a bigger battery to power it?

I have that same manual rigger on my 16” little aluminum. It gets the job done, but I love my other one that has a line counter and separate reel lock. But it’s light, so that’s good!. If your fish finder  transducer is mounted so that the beam picks up the ball/weight, you can adjust your depth that way instead of trying to count cranks or retrofitting a counter on it. Good luck!
