Thinking seriously of going out Wed 6/20 at Moss about 6. Anyone interested and available?
Wind and swell look good (if you believe in forecasts), however, would be a minus tide at @9:30am, so there'd be strong outgoing current at launch, I suppose not a problem if there is no west wind.
Wind picks up again on Thurs, and I'm busy today (Monday) and tomorrow.
If conditions look poor when I get there, I think I'll head to SWS

I am jealous Tom. I read coastside reports of salmon caught a mile out and Wednesday looks like the day to get them forecast wise. Good luck!

Yeah, one of my co-workers walked up to me this morning just dying to show off a picture of the fat salmon he caught off Moss this past weekend.   :smt007  He was out in a buddy's PB and therefore had no clue how far out they were.  :smt120  Nice salmon though.

Moss Landing, CA, on Monterey Bay halfway between Santa Cruz and Monterey, home to really tall twin power plant stacks, at the entrance to Elkhorn Slough.   Launch near the old launch ramp just off Hwy 1 or behind either the north or south rock jetties(the Jaws).  Hope you can make it.
I'd like all the company I can get, but keep it in mind that you have to watch conditions carefully and not get caught out too far when the wind comes up, although the salmon right now are probably out further than I'd like to think, unless we find a stray, and the diciest place is going in and out of the jaws, tho a lot of the time that's a piece of cake.  If you're looking for a shakedown newbie run on the salt, there are better places to start, Santa Cruz harbor, Monterey harbor area, even Stillwater Cove in Carmel Bay.

Fuzzy Tom I don't know if you saw it but a couple days back one of the coastsiders said the early morning run out of the jaws was dicey for small boats  One thing I figured out is once you get out of the mess at the jaws keep to the right away from the buoy you pass going out on the left, like you intend to head toward Pajaro

I was coming in there and passing the buoy got tossed, climbed back on and got tossed again Not such a long swim if it came down to that

Also somebody got into salmon a mile or so from the jaws

I'm scheming to sneak out this week and it's a toss up between Moss and Dux It's still looking like the fish are pretty deep at Moss

Thanks Blue, I did see that post about a dicey exit.  I'll just have to go take a look, easy enough to do from the area behind the north jetty.  Last week I could see that the PB's had to gun it to get out and that made me decide it wasn't worth it. Thanks for the advice about the buoy.
If the bite turns on in weeks to come, it'll seem silly that I tried to get them now, but it never happened last year.

If I could get more fishing days I'd do Moss for sure tomorrow and try Dux later which is sounding sporadic for fish plus weather is more chancey

The drive to Moss is a bit on the long side for me

Didn't go out. A little windier than predicted, tho I suspect it settled down later in the morning before picking up big time.  The few PB's that launched made course in direction of Soquel Hole, Jaws o.k., but very strong outgoing current.  Probably had more to do with my condition (little tired) than that of Moss.
