My lithium battery is Velcro'd on the roof inside my hobie.  Doesn't move or fall unless I really bang or topple over.  A waterproof box glue permenantly inside works too.

What kind of battery do you have?

I just let mine slide around. Maybe the Gearing Up and Rigging Up section will have better info than the introduction section.  :smt006

I use a battery box like the one in the picture - I hot glued some strips of pool noodle material to the hull bottom as locating bumpers to keep it in place, been several years now, so-far, so-good.

I picked up a gardner’s kneeling pad, cut holes for the transducer and battery then glued it down with Lexel. The battery just sits in the hole but I glued the transducer down with Lexel also. I read here that Lexel works really great but found out it dries slow.

  Mark L,
Lexel will eventually fail on you.  My very first transducer install in my OB hull failed miserably when the hull got warm. I was suspending from ceiling at the time and temps got easily into the 90's. When I  got the hull ready for a trip, I notices the transducer was sitting 3" up off the hull as it had oozzzed it's self off the hull whilst being hung from ceiling.  Also, minute air bubbles can form in the pad from the ultra-sonic pulsed emitted from the transducer.
Any air pockets in the glue pad will block sound waves from transducer.  Sure Lexel is a nice clear adhesive, but what it turned into after heating a little in my hull was an opac dry snot looking mess.
A water bath install is what I have now.  Absolutely ZERO chance of air bubbles forming, (Unless I forget to fill transducer cavity when I launch)

Hi CGN,

Yes I know the Lexel will most likely fail at some point. I started out with a side mount but didn't like having to take it on and off every time I went out.  I did l lot of research before using this method and for me it seemed the best. I even agonized between getting my Eddyline or a Viking because I really liked the mod-pod that comes with the viking. I have been using the Lexel method for about 8 months. It has been through two surf zone classes where my kayak(and me) were pummeled relentlessly for hours, and had to pump out gallons of water every few hours. So far it looks like new.

Last week end at ARW I thought it had failed because the screen was filled with vertical clear lines and the smooth bottom appeared jagged. The morning was windy and bumpy and what was on the screen turned out to be a reflection of the chop onto the bottom, and air bubbles going under the hull. As the day became calm the screen went back to normal.

Unless your kayak comes with a built in transducer mount all of the other methods (water bath, epoxy, side mount, soft adhesive) have their drawbacks. Like I said before the Lexel was the best option for me.

Regards,

MarkL

Get some heavy duty Velcro. It works great to secure battery.
