Launched from MBK at around 8:45. Fished off Cannery Row for a mixed bag of rockies. The swell was pretty regular and the wind came up around noon. The water was much darker than last week and there was a HUGE bloom of jellyfish.I kept hooking into them and coming up with gobs of goo on my rig.Luckily it didn't sting. Released one 22" ling and several other small rf, mostly blues, grass and kelp.Ended up keeping one fat 16" black,a nice olive, a decent grass and a copper. All in all a good day on the water.  :smt004

Hi, Aaron - Thanks for the report. How was the wind & swell conditions (size) in the early part of morning? I am thinking of heading off tomorrow.

The wind was SW 5-10 in the morning, but it picked up to 15kts after 12:00 which made for a workout on the paddle back in.The swell was 5-6 ft out of the NW.Still an easy launch/landing at MBK.

Here's a pic of the big black just before cleaning...

hey aaron, I think you got a big blue (again!).  :smt002.

or are you just testing us?  :smt006.

craigh got one like that yesterday and a big copper too.

I thought the water looked murkier in santa cruz as well.
I guess that wind and windswell roiled things up a bit.

Blues and blacks I always seem to confuse...I guess this one is a blue because the mouth doesn't extend past the eye. It's funny how the blacks I caught off of Capitola were more "blue" in color than this blue.

I caught quite a few blacks off steamer lane, then the next week, I thought I was
catching blacks until I took a good look and this time around they were blues.
pretty interchangeable. this weekend, no fish out there at all. I guess they moved
on or were fished out already.

have you noticed that the flesh of a blue seems more opaque? personally I really
enjoy catching blues and blacks, I think they hit and fight pretty hard for their size.
