Okay, this is a great project, one which I hope to do someday, and I’ve been curious if anyone else in the forum has does the same.

Give us some details:  When did you start, how long has it taken, is this one of Nick Schade’s designs or kits?

No kit, I designed the kayak with some free software I found online. I'm a professional tradesman (build high end custom homes) so lumber was free. I'll buy epoxy and fiberglass and also hatches and such. So I built the forms and milled the strips myself from scrap lumber. So far I have about 8 hours in it and haven't spent a dime.

my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

     Looks like a fun project...

Built mine in 08..  No work available,, I needed something to do.
I used Alaskan yellow cedar ,,with misc wood for accents which were left overs from previous projects...  Redwood, Teak and a piece of Mahogany

One of the tricky parts of a strip built is the point at which the top and bottom halves come together and get the cloth and epoxy on the inside of the boat.  Since I’m an ocean yaker, I’m planning on a long boat, which is 16’ or more and that makes for a long reach to the tips. Any insight on that?

Thats very cool!
I wish my skills were that good.
I like to play like i have woodworking skills...apparently i'm rustier than I thought since I took off most of a fingernail and a little more with the tablesaw last Sunday (a totally preventable schoolboy screw up too)...

To get that fiberglass seam on the inside use a painter's pole with a roller on it, and then hit the front and back through the hatches. Highly recommend a full face respirator otherwise your eyes will be burning

Impressive. It would take me 8 hours to do about 5% of that, and not nearly as well...
