Thought about trying for Salmon at Moss this am, but it was already looking kinda snotty at 0700.   Drove to Santa Cruz instead and launched at the ramp.  No wind to speak of until about 11:30. It didn't take long for the sheep to start showing.  Trolled a flasher and hoochie til the top of the tide and then drifted frozen squid for a while.  Nothing but dogfish caught.

Santa Cruz is tough.  I have never had really good fishing there.  At least you hooked the dog fish to keep the skunk off.  I saw all of the trailers at Moss this morning but from what I hear the bite is near Marina which is a long paddle from either Moss or Monterey.  Thanks for the report.

I was out there today, too. Left the SC harbor around 10:30 AM.  I was fishing in 40 FOW for halibut. Drifting with the wind down toward Capitola and trolling back upwind toward the lighthouse. Caught a large mackerel, but only a few hits here and there after that. It was fun paddling, but the water was just too choppy by 12:30 to fish any longer.

I have an annual permit from the harbor. You can park anywhere in the harbor parking lots and you can launch from the ramp. I just pay it once in the beginning of the year, slap the sticker on, and forget about it for another year. If you don't want to spring for that much dough, you can also buy a day pass and park all day and launch from the ramp. I think it's 6 dollars. On the other side of the harbor, which you access from lower seabright, you can park in a lot with meters and launch from that ramp for free.

all this time, I've been buying the daily parking pass and then driving over to the other kayak launch, you mean I can launch from where the PBs launch?  that would be great!  Launching and landing from the floating dock is not easy for me!

how much is the annual pass?

Yeah, you can launch from the same area that you park. No need to drive. I usually get a spot near the ramp, park, and roll my kayak down the ramp.

I don't remember the exact amount, but the annual pass for a car and kayak launching is around 150 dollars. I use the harbor for both recreational paddling and fishing, so it's worth it for me. If you wait two more weeks, you can get a half-year pass for half that much.
