bummer man!! props for getting out there though =P
Thanks.  After this morning I have a strange urge to both learn how to surf and troll for trout at my local lake.
I’m glad you got out without losing much. Several of the teachers with River and Ocean would be happy to teach a surf zone class for kayak fishermen. I have taken two of the surf zone classes and feel pretty comfortable moving around in the surf with my kayak stripped of gear. The last class I added knee straps, and it made a huge difference when bracing.

Mark, sadly, I wasn't in my kayak when it happened. :smt013  I fell fortunate I never got out.

Ya learn by experience...     20 yrs ago my buddy and I tried launching off Del Monte beach,, that spot right in front of the hotel.        Fully loaded with scuba tanks and spearguns.    We stood on the beach and looked at the breaking sets,  said " It don't look too bad"...  Hah,,,   Got past the first few breakers, about 100 yds out  we thought we had it made until that last one...  looked about 6 feet over my head.      It hit me so hard I got stripped out of the seat in a nano second. That one hurt !   By the time we surfaced we were both washed back onto the beach.    All our gear was well  secured, the only loss was one broken paddle .       Being hard headed,,, the next week we tried once more...  Ha,,, no way.  At least I had the sense that time to turtle before the wave slammed into me.    Lesson learned.  :smt001

Oh, that sounds like kayaking in the ocean.  :smt005 I will likely be out there tomorrow.

Be sure to have your camera rolling on launch/landing...

No gopro footage, but no spectacular yard sale either.  :smt001

Ebayfisher - you must have wanted it bad to go out Friday. I admire your motivation.  :smt002 Today was a lot smaller but the set waves were still overhead.

I ran into you on a rough day (6ft mixed swell, can't recall the surf) back in the thick of salmon season.  I had no issues going in and out through the south corner.  This must have been much worse where that path didn't work as well?

The south corner still worked yesterday, though the surf was bigger than that day we met in the summer, and the high tide in the morning made for a meaner shorebreak.
