Has anyone seen a FF mounted off of the hole for the sail mast on Hobie Mirages?
...got him in the boat he measured six foot long I was so dang impressed I had to write this song...

I've seen a few people do that but one worry I think there is is that the object you put into the mast hole may get jammed. If you can get something that fits a little on the loose side and find a way to secure it could be a good idea. Maybe run an elastic cord around the FF and then to the securing hook for the mast. Only issue I could still see with this also is that if the tube you're mounting the FF on isn't a semi-secure fit in the mast hole the FF may swing around.. and that'll piss you off in the long run. I went through a few ideas when I put mine on and found that a Ram Rod FF mount made the most sense because it's secure and adjustable.
