well i forgot defog on my trip to the channel islands and mixed up in a little bottle some drops of dish washing liquid and some water. before diving i put a couple drops on each lens, mushed it around and rinsed it out in the ocean. this kept my mask fog free for the whole time i was in, about 4 hours.

be sure to rinse it out or you'll have itchy eyes though. dont need eyeballs to be too squeaky clean: )

im sure this has been around a while but i just finally figure it out :smt005 :smt005

I just use spit, never fogs.  :D

A good thing to use is those trial/travel sized Johnson's baby shampoo bottles.  My grandpa used to always have one in his bag with his dive gear.  Tiny, super cheap, & works good.  A lot milder too.   :smt001

And all this time I thought spit was the ultimate defogger.  :smt105

Usually toothpaste is used for just a new mask.  The mild abrasive of it removes any manufacturing residues & gets it primed for diving.  The spit is the maintenance.  ;)

One bad thing about using spit is that the bacteria from your mouth is not suppose to be in your eyes. I learned this the hard way two years ago when I forgot my anti-fog drops and decided to spit in my mask like I had done hundreds of times before. About two days later my eyes looked as though I had a case of super bad pink eye and after a couple of days I ended up going to the doctor who told me if was from spitting in my mask. The bacteria had caused and infection...let me tell you it hurt like no other.. Anti-fog is one of the first things on my check list now before I go out the door. I only spit in my mask now if its the last resort.... I have never heard of using kelp before though how well does that work tote.

Yes, I know, but I find it does a great job as a defogger as well.  4 out of 5 dentists recommend it ...

I usually spit too.  I do give it a dunk before putting it on though.  Also because it's a low volume mask I don't keep water in the mask like folks tend to do with high-volume masks, which probably keeps the loogies out of my eyes.  Instead if I have to rinse it I flood and clear the entire mask.

Commercial defogger every once in awhile and spit mostly for me. I had to buy the commercial 'cause no one wants to see you spit in your goggles at the pool...
John, do you you have a dive report for that trip?

Straight baby shampoo inside, rinsed. While dry:liquid furniture polish outside then buffed (doesn't help underwater, but keeps droplets from sticking above water) - use for cameras, too.
