I started kayak fishing around 15 years ago on the Central Coast while I went to Cal Poly and worked at Virg's Landing in Morro Bay.  Still have the Cobra Explorer kayak that I spent my entire paycheck on.  Getting back out for the first time in about a decade this weekend.
