Hi! Finially gathered the courage to make a post haha. Im new to fishing in general, been going at it for about 2ys now. Ive only fished freshwater lakes but im more interested in fishing saltwater. Im constantly near the Richmond bay area so I'm here to look for new tips and guidance and possible other anglers to go out kayaking with so I'm not tempted to fish the ocean by myself haha. Seems like a lot of good people here, glad to be part it!

My original kayak buddy told me to get out once a week and I've almost done that for 3.5years...Car top that puppy and get in the water at Miller Knox and tool around that harbor and a little in the bay...make sure all your stuff is where you want it...leashed or not leashed...all while your bouncing around a dead anchovy on a 3-4oz hali setup.  You'll be glad you did...if you're only out there for an hour you'll have learned a mess o' good stuff...I've always tried to get my "from car to bait in the water time efficient"  Some guys are super prepared and in the water in 30 minutes from parking, depending on the launch proximity.  Wind and tide can be fierce over there so pick a medium tide, no more than 4-5kt wind, and try to use the tide to your advantage...all textbook, but thought I'd use up some of this morning caffeine reminding myself I got to get on the water.  Happy Sunday... :smt006

Thanks for the advice it seems really helpful! Ima try to hit the water soon. But what do you mean by a hali setup. I've never really fished for hali except for like a drop shop rig off the bank. Im still a noob and learning every fishing trip hah

Within these 3 rigs are an abundance of options  I have 30 lb braid, 275-300 yds to a 40lb mono topshot that is 25-40ft long tied to the braid with an fg knot.  I then attach all my rigs to this.  My main hali rig is the sliding sinker with 30lb leader and egg sinker 2-4oz depending on the tide.  I use a 1/0 mutu circle hook but may consider a 2/0.
