Late Report - Clear Lake, 5/19-20

I fished the BnT Clear Lake Open tournament that weekend.  We launched from the ClearLake Oaks keys -- good thing, cause the wind was blowing!  Put a damper on trying to fish any main lake stuff, so I just headed into the keys.  Saturday the bite was pretty good and I ended up with a 5 fish limit of around 16.5 #'s.  I caught all my fish on only 2 baits -- 5" Senko (wacky) and a Chatterbait.

Sunday it got VERY crowded in the keys (due to the wind) with boats & kickboats literally lined up to fish each dock.  I could only manage 3 fish and ended up in 43rd or something like that (out of 67).  A couple of guys tried to fish main lake stuff and ended up getting blown onto a beach by wind and waves.  They were stranded and had to walk to a house to call for help.

Get UP!  Way to HOOK'em Gordon!  never mind the standings....you got BIGFISH!

I was wondering what happened over there that weekend. The bridgeport crew considered participation but were disturbed by the fish removal from territories and weigh in tactics. How did you keep your fish alive?
 The  big winds at C-lake are back and have knocked down that hot top water bite, but the surf has been pretty good. I had 2 short but solid rides at the southend point of Konocti bay but realized that ive spent most of the last year fishing instead of paddling and im out of shape.

We had a few "floaters" at weigh-in, but considering we brought almost 550 bass to the scales, I guess that is to be expected.  At this point in the season a lot of the fish are "stressed-out" due to the rigors of spawning, and I'm sure that didn't help.  On the other hand, since most were post-spawn fish, we weren't removing them from nests.  They were all released within 1 mile of where they were caught; they could easily return in a few hours (if they wanted to).

To keep my catch alive, I built a homemade livewell out of a Rubbermaid tote, some vinyl tubing, pvc, and a bilge pump.  Runs on the same 12V battery that powers my FF.
