Question for you guys. What is a good beginning setup for rock fish to halibut?
I want to start using my kayak in the ocean probably won't venture out to far until I get comfortable with the tides and waves. I have a pro angler 12 but have only used it on lakes so far and I know the ocean is a lot different.  Thanks for any information.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

what mickfish said. The trevala is a great all around light rod for RF and butts. But if you're on a budget, the ugly stick tiger is also a good alternative.

I'm a fan of my Shimano Tekota reels, but that reel would be hard to beat for the price. However, you can get by with a much cheaper rod---the TDR70MHB works great for everything I do:

Thanks guys I'm getting money together.  I might buy on the cheaper end first then if I like it I will upgrade.  I started out with a 1000$ kayak now I bought a hobby pro angler 12. I try not to jump in to deep without trying it first.

Any input on camp grounds in the Monterey area? My wife likes the beach and I would like to fish.

Shakespeare Ugly Stik Tiger Elite Jig Casting Rod - 1397904

Is the right model ugly stick to start off with before I dump a bunch of money?

Check out Veterans Memorial and it's a first come first serve, no reservation. Minutes from fishing and beaches. No wood burning is the only downside.
