Hey all,

I purchased a new Lowrance Hook2 5 for my kayak and haven't had a chance to take it out on the water yet. I applied some dielectric grease in both power and transducer plug and now the plugs won't stay in. It always slides out separating the connection. I tried cleaning out the grease the best I could but the damn plugs won't stay in!! Pretty frustrated at this point and don't know what else to do. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

There’s suppose to be an outer plastic nut that u screw the connectors to hold tight.

This ^^^ theres blue for Transducer and Red for power (i think) there should be some type of way that once twist it locks.

Try getting some electronics contact cleaner, spray out the connectors and the ports. Let it dry before you hook anything up oh and make sure it says it’s safe for electronics.

No nut to lock in place

Well that’s just forward thinking if you ask me. Who ever designed that connector deserves an award ...  maybe slip a thicker rubber O-ring over the connector to help keep the connector  in place when it’s inserted.  Filling in the gap and causing friction to hold in place..... otherwise .... I have another method but. It involves more work and a sacrifice...  and probably frowned upon .

Thanks for the response and yeah, real genius idea on the plug design. I'll try both ideas on the electric cleaner and bigger/thicker o rings. Keep you guys posted on the results!

Try some heat sink over the plugs to make the fit a little more snug/tight.

You guys think Lowrance would exchange this out as warranty? Or would they take the stance of, since I applied the grease it's on me?

Hi Googan,
I have had very good experiences with Lowrance Customer Support. I once had an Elite 5 that broke some of the prongs and although it was past the one one year warranty period, they told me that there was a 3 year service warranty. they offered me to upgrade to a Hook 5 for $180 including the transducer. From the time that I sent the broken  Elite 5 in to confirm that it was not working, they kept in touch with me and sent me a brand new Hook 5 with transducer, You can probably ask them why this problem is happening .nd they might offer you and upgrade for little cost or sent you another new Hook 2-5.
I would give them a call and explain your problem.
Aloha,
Michael

Sorry to hear about this.  I have have the Hook 2 as well.  I would be very wary of modifying anything on the FF, especially since its brand new. You could void the warranty.  I would follow Michaels advice and call Lowrance.

One expects these things to work out of the box and when they don't its major suckage.
