Hi guys I just got back from my mothership trip on the islander.  Fishing for big fish was kinda slow.  Big fish on the kayak was a ten pound halibut.  The boat spotted some yellowtail on the surface 400 yds from the boat.  They called us on the radio and I ran over but by the time I got there they were gone.  A couple deckhands ran out on the zodiac and landed 2 Bonita and a yellowtail.  I was in the search of big fish and fished the yo-yo iron and live bait most of the time.  Tho I did fish some fishtraps in the kelp for calicos.  I would bring at least 1 lighter rod 12# to fish for calicos if I went again.  Bring some 1# balls to bounce for halibut.  3/0 flyliner hooks were about rite for the sardines that they had.  All in all it was a great trip I had a couple @ 5# calicos 1 on bait and one on Iron.  The crew was top notch and the boat was excellent. (take a hot shower after your done fishing) here are a couple of the calicos I caught.

Thanks for the report Patrick.  I look forward to our hunt for the big fish as well.  May I ask you how the air temp was?  Dressing for comfort on the boat and which underlayers for the wetsuit are my quiestions.  Looks FAC.....this'll be so good.

The air temp was around 60-67 and the watter temp was 63 I chose no wetsuit and I went out Fred Savage style some wore a wetsuit, but I was comfortable in shorts and a paddle jacket when the sun broke through the clouds I took off my paddle jacket.

(P.S. What does FAC stand for?)

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Yeah it was flat in the morning but it got choppy after lunch  the drift was aprox 2mph so the crew loaded all of the kayaks back on the boat and moved to the lee side of the island.

The calico with the jig is actuly a "smaller" one the second and third picture is of a bigger one.
