Hooked up with SackYak (Etienne) to fish the soon to be closed area north of San Simeon. Lauched at 6:15 AM through 1-2 ft surf and paddled 3 miles NW in search of deep water structure. Stopped and fished the kelp and Etienne hooked the first vermillion. Thing were slow inshore so headed out to 100-120 FOW about 2 miles offshore and picked up some assorted rockfish mostly vermillion with Etienne hooking a big one. Hooked 2 underlings (19", 23")  :smt013. Headed in around 10:30 with enough fish for dinner. Etienne certainly had more luck than I but a good day of fishing and a nice day on the water. Used to fish this area when Virg's ran trips out of San Simeon many years ago. Was a nice way to say goodbye. Etienne, thanks for the company and Apple pie. See you at HMB. Dogpound sorry we missed the hookup will try again in August.

Looks like fun, you guys have to go out of Harvey before you go.  Littoral has a post w/ all the info you should need.  Harvey is considered among the best here & it's going to be completely inaccessible after the closure.  Let me know if you decide to do this i can meet you & show you the launch.

Another great day fishing on the Big Sur coast.  It was a pleasure fishing with you Scott.  Sorry about the late post.  I just could not get myself on lie this weekend.  I ended up with six Rf consisting of four vermillions one copper and one olive plus one plate sized sand dab that swallowed a whole squid on a 6/0 Siwash hook that was bigger than its mouth?  Below are photos of the first Vermillion and Scott's underling.  Scott, I really like the graphics on your boat, very cool.

PJ, let me know the day and I will be happy to drive two hours to meet you and fish that spot.  Weekends are better of course but I do have some flexibility and would take a day if needed.  I would love to fish the secret FC especially if it will soon be closed for ever.

The water was glassy and the launch and landing were easy.  Thanks Scott and family for the place to stay and the great dinner.  After fishing I drove up the coast to go home and joined the crew for the Chef memorial.  All in all a great day to say good by to both that fishing area and Chef.

From the looks of these pics...you got the weather dialed in!!  was it luck or lack of southswell?
Dinner on nature when your counting on it, must have felt good to provide.
