Took the wife out for a morning fish at lake mendo on memorial day.  The weather was perfect, warm no wind, and fortunately not many PB's or jetski's.  Ran into Darin at the bait shop and he told me about the evening kickin' bass had and so decided to follow up on the spot.  I caught my first striper at lake mendo....finally.  First one was a male 27.5 inches.  It milked all over my boat!  Car wash time.  Then on the next pass over the same spot I went bendo again.  This time I had a pig.  It towed me around and as I got it to the boat she broke off.   :smt013.  I know Brian, re-tie your knots after a big fish.  Made a couple more passes along the same spot and bendo again.... I'm startin' to think I might know what I am doing :smt003.  This time I land'er .  A 31 inch female, yahooo!  I guess the fish gods where lookin' on me that day.  All in all a great day.

Good work Jim.  I was there as well and watched Jim break off the one and land his second fish.  I don't know what he was doing, but he had the hot stick and I couldn't buy a bite all day.

Jim was using large minnows from the store and I was using live shad from the lake.  The shad were pretty dinky, in fact I had a tough time netting them... they were slipping through my net.

I spend from 7:30 to about 9:30ish trolling the area outside of crappie cove.  Tons of shad out there in the shallows... lots of schools but no boils and no striper love.  Lots of silly carp flying out of the water though.

I came over by the island and trolled the same area as Jim for nada and could just watch as he had all that fun.

Oh well... there's always next time.  Glad to see Jim finally get some love.

Good job Jim.  After being outfished my daughter wanted to place our dead minnows in the cab of your truck...having this golden opportunity to teach her this would not be appropriate I told her next time we would simply drown you and take your fish...just kidding those are some beautiful fish.

Good job Jim!  Yeah, re-tying is key.  How old were your fish?

You know Brian, I was so excited that I caught something I forgot to keep the otoliths.  But from looking at all the old posts, it seems that most of the males are around 27 inches and females are 31ish.  Jelly's fish was either a pig or an older fish.
