SLBuilder and I corresponded last year about a Cove run, but our dates never lined up with nice water.  This spring we started planning our trip again, and the relentless north winds of the past several weeks looked like they might shut us out like last year.  Paul was ready to come check out the Cove either way though, so we set our date for this past Sunday with a fallback of Monday if necessary.  Paul and his traveling companion were at the Tides Inn, and so were my two uncles who come up once a year or so for fishing and a visit.  My uncles had brought up the Boston Whaler and managed to get out for a salmon on Saturday between the Bell and the Whistle, so hopes were high that we'd find a salmon bite too.  Paul's been out on plenty of charters but hadn't landed a ling from the yak, so that was our target on what was a rough day but not as bad as last week.  We launched onto a decent ocean around 7AM and got on a ling bite early - nothing to put on the stringer, but Paul landed a few legal ones and some rockfish, so the bite was pretty good for sloppy water.  We pressed on through a little wind and random nasty whitecaps out front through early afternoon, and I was stoked that Paul was really comfortable on his Stealth 14 in the challenging conditions.  We both ended up with some salmon action, we landed 6 species between us, and Paul got a nice ling that hitchhiked up on a small rockfish that had taken the hooks.  All in all it was a great trip where Paul got more confident on bumpy water and checked some fish off of his list from the yak.  Thanks for paddling with me, SLBuilder - hope to see you in August.  :smt001
