Last week I was able to sneak out for a quick 3-hour shore dive for my birthday. We arrived to our spot with a low tide and huge kelp forest.  I had never dove this area at low tide and it took a while to figure a plan to enter and exit the kelp. After suiting up I began the fun day of swimming over patches of kelp, sometimes I felt like I wasn’t moving at all. Eventually with a lot of kicking and bouncing on the bank board I made it through a thick part of kelp. Clip off at our first spot and notice the end of my polespear, the band part, must have gotten tangled and screwed off. Other than losing that part I wasn’t worried and just grabbed my 75, I always like a backup gun. Dropped down and nailed a couple verms within the first 10 dives. Seeing a couple of female sheeps, I changed my gears to find the big bull. Finally, on one of my dives I come down on him. I sink down the pinnacle ignoring him and come back up to line up my shot. Nailed him right through eyes, he isn’t going anywhere and took my time coming up with him. Kept exploring the depths and found a nice cab in a deep hole to add. The thermo climb starts to get to me so I move in a little shallower. Not finding any lings, I decide to pick off an olive. Looking for a chunky blue I notice a big female sheep buzzing by below the pinnacle. Waited for her to look away and came down on her waiting for an easy broad side shot. Taking a blue I decided to call it a day and start the long kick back through the kelp.

Enjoy!

That's a great day in the water! We dont have those sheep heads up here. How do they taste? They are cool looking fish and on my bucket list to catch or poke.

Thanks everyone,
They are kind of taste like Olive rockfish, hardly a fishy taste, and are great for Sashimi and Ceviche. I’m sure Jim could chime in with a million different recipes for them as well.
