went out with a friend to drop our new promar traps.the wind was howling.pillar point harbor looked like the bay on a bad day!peddled out a little ways past the mouth.i was sketched out but at least i was buddied up.i wouldnt have gone out in those conditions if i was solo.my buddy didnt think it was bad as i thought it was.(i wasnt used to big swells and ripping wind)but as my friend said  "better to experience and get used to these conditions a short ways from the harbor then when we are  out there a good ways and it picks up". i even started to feel a little sea sick.we killed some time and got some coffee and headed back out about 3 hours later( would have left them longer but the wind was gettin worse and was white capping pretty good ) the verdict was 6 keeper dungies/2 big reds/and 2 sand dabs that crept in the traps so it worked out in the end.          CRAB CAKES= yum!!!!!

I was  asking if the crabbing is getting better at HMB. I don't know that area very well as far as crabbing go's and really don't know when to target them.

when is the best time to fish for crab in HMB?

I told you guys before, where I come from, we say we caught lots of crab, not crabs. I think the season ends here pretty soon. I know the commercial guys usually quit early because they've tapered off buy now and they want to get their gear out of the water before the salmon stick boats get out there.

Dennis Baxter from the new Captain Pete chimed in on the radio show last night (BTW, back to 7-8pm on thursdays).

He called HMB crabs as the top pick.  Right in front of the Harbor, 30-40 FOW, between the two yelllow (MBARI?) buoys.

Good luck!!

Allen
