I hit the lake both days at around 6:15 am. I scooped about a dozen shad each day from the dock. They were real small, about 2".

I trolled around for about an hour and a half each day and had no luck with striper. I did manage one small black bass on Friday, and about a 6 pound black bass today. I had to get off the lake before the ski boats and jet ski's stirred it up.

CHEERS!

Way to give it a go, Dan.  I've never heard of a black bass - does that score as LM or SM?  Lots of species in that lake!   :smt001

Being an honorable sportsman is way more important than what you catch.

It's a LMB. Now I'm not biologist, but I was told that LMB and SMB are actually part of the sunfish family (perch), and the only true bass is the striper.

I don't know?

Mahi Mahi did you catch your shad with a throw net or a scoop type net. I am heading up to the lake on the 29th to give it a try. all the PBs should be back to work by then I hope.

Trow net are illegal. I used a dip net. It isn't real hard, here's how I do it...and it ain't pretty! I used either a castmaster or white plastic something on a pole and cast it out a little way. I reel it in kinda medium to keep it near the top of the water. The shad will follow the lure. Once you have them close, pick up your dip net and just slam it into the water where they're swimming. I usually get about 5 or 6 each time.

On the south end I've noticed the shad are real small lately. I don't know why. I use a big hook to troll with, so I have been putting two shad on a hook. Don't laugh, it's been working. Be real careful with the shad, a mean look will kill half of them.

Good luck!

Fortunately for us Mahi we happen to have a resident biologist on staff here in Mendo.  Wish I could have come out on Saturday but my pillow was feeling neglected. I seem to have been getting the Striper skunk myself lately.

SS PERMISSION, does the captian know your on line?  Will she issue you a whoppin?  I flaked on Mahi this AM,   my pillow was also lonely.  I slept in due to some jerk making me work hard on Friday..... HMMMMMM....  How is the new keg.  Did you break her in gently, or did you get mid-evil on her.

Mahi, right you are. They are in the sunfish family. Abking, they call em black bass because of their ability to change color to adapt to their enviroment. Put a LMB in real clear water and they will turn almost black, put the same fish in murky water and they will turn real pale green. It's all about the camo... Stripers are true bass.
