Was wondering if there was a Chevy mechanic on the forum familiar with air conditioning systems. My 2001 Siverado's A/C stopped working and would appreciate it if someone could recommend a mechanic in the South Bay or better yet recommend a NCKA member.

Thanks

Not a mechanic but mechanically inclined.
2001 is a pretty old truck and your AC most likely needs a recharge if you havent done one since 01. I think the local auto parts store may carry a DIY recharge kit and I'm pretty sure there are tons of vids online if you don't want to pay a shop. Here is one link I found just being super curious.

If you don’t use your AC every day, the O-rings tend to crack and cause leaks. Recharging may help if there are no leaks.
My mechanic recommends turning on the AC at least once a week to “lubricate”the system.

Make sure the a/c clutch is engaging.  Charge could be low.  Control unit also goes out in these, it loses its ability to ground the clutch.  Check to see if the belt is still there. A/c belt tensioners are weak by design. Does it have dual climate?  If the clutch is engaging,  see if it gets cold on the passenger side. Blend door actuators go out all the time.

1st thing, look and see if the small ac belt is there. :smt044 then, drive up to auburn and let me see what's wrong and fix it.... guessing costs time and $$$$ I'll get you going and blowing (cold air)  :smt005 But, check the belts first. Let me know if you want to come up....
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

There is a resistor behind the glove box (at least on my 2000 K2500). Had a similar problem and that was the culprit. Easy fix if that's it.
