Trailer Wheel Bearings Question

I have a Shorelander PWC trailer that I transport my yak with.  My son replaced the inner and outer bearings,  races and seals and packed them with marine grease.  The hubs have bearing buddies but I never back the trailer into the water.  My question is: Is there any point in pumping the bearing buddies full of grease since they will never be submerged?  The bearings have been "power packed".  I have never had bearing issues with the trailer, it just seemed like the right time to replace the original bearings which must be around 20 years old.

As long as the B-Buddies are not bottomed out, you should be good.
Also, DON'T over fill them till they squirt grease as this will blow your seals.
Remember, these are the same as the front bearings on your van, if packed properly,
they should last years before any service is needed.

Thanks Eric.  That's what I was thinking.  They were very well packed and the spindles looked to be in great shape.  The 12" wheels cause me to have a little more concern than for the bearings in the van but they have made several trips to Albion and the Cove without an issue.  Replacing them may have been a little "over kill" but I would like to not make any stops other than for fuel or food.  See you next month!

With new bearings and races, remember to not over tighten and then go back after a trip and check tightness again.  Sometimes fresh packed bearings feel nice when first installed, but once they've had a few miles on them the grease settles out and they need to be snugged just a little.  Quick way to tell is to lift the tire off the ground and give it a tug to see if it will wobble on the spindle.
