Opening Day

I was under the impression that opening day is Saturday. That gives everyone the whole weekend to hunt or fish. Rockfish in the SF district opens on Sunday. Is that normal or a misprint?

Turkey is saturday March 31, RCG is Sunday April 1 for monterey, April 15 for sonoma/SF, and May 1 up here.

The open and close dates vary between having a 1st/15th/30th/31st type of date or coinciding with a weekend.  Most hunting is weekend based.  More and more, fishing is calendar date based but it can go either way.  For example if you look at the proposed salmon alternatives up here they are hybrids of calendar dates and Labor Day weekend closing on a mondya.

And of course there is a huge gotcha out there in Dungeness closing on July 30 in the norhtern counties, even though July has 31 days in it.

Almost certainly.  There is still a little horsetrading going on but if we lose any season at all it will almost definitely be on the other end in September, not in May.

Thanks, looking forward to shelter. I am hoping to cheat with a 13.5 valco alum for maybe a couple of days. Had a blast hand launching my 15.6 alum westcoaster up there last year.
