A "guy I know" needs to get in compliance with the crab trap regs.

https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=150181&inline

You need the GO ID on your buoy.

It seems like the Danileson traps just need to have the opening of one of the rings bent open to 5" and use one length of rotten cotton to attach the ring and they are good to go.

Now for the Promar collapsible trap. Do you need just one ring on the top with rotten cotton and that is good enough because the netting will open larger than 5"?

Either trap does not really need two escape rings as far as I can see although the Danileson does have two.

Thanks,

Loren

I lost the bookmark for it but there are some videos out there that show how to modify a Promar trap to make it legal.  Basically, you cut a 5x5 flap - not a hole - in the top, then use cotton rot cord to close it again.

Not a bunch of help, huh?  Hope you can find the videos.

Yup, that's a good way to do it.

It's on promar's youtube.
