I should've been there at first light.  Last night's forecast said the 20 knot winds would last all night, but then at 3:30 this morning I saw that they flipflopped again and called for 5-15 knots this morning becoming 20-25.  I drove over the hill and arrived at a nice flat launch around 7:15.  Headed out and the whitecaps were just starting to show.  Got a few good drifts in.  Caught a 29-30" ling right off the bat.  Went on to land 5 or 6 nice blacks before taking the shrimpfly off and going with just the 6 oz. head with an 8" bubblegum split tail.  Caught a few more blacks (they can't resist that bubblegum colored plastic...) then caught a little nicer ling.  I'd held the first one by the outer gill plate ridge throughout the measure and photo process, but this one I just laid down between my legs and it sat there calmly for some pics before I put it back in the drink.  Released all fish today.  Went inshore as the wind got nasty and bounced around 2 hooks full of ab guts for 30 minutes or so hoping for a cab - no luck.  We hardly ever catch cabs offshore here - mostly just from the rocks.

Too bad, Frank, that the forecast was so inconsistent.  It wouldn't have been a good weekend to come up because the action was so windy and I got blown off the water pretty early today.  Ideally we'll have many hours of good water when you come up.  Soon, soon...   :smt001

Eric,
Nice pics as usual and that Ling isn't too bad.  Nice self portrait, "the contented fisherman" happy to be on the water again!  I have to scratch next weekend for fishing, a family obligation came up.  I have the week of June 4th off, any chance you could do some mid week fishing?

Frank:  I'm glad you asked - in order to catch the very rare "good" day out there we have to be ready to hit it on a day or two notice.  I can bail from work pretty frequently if necessary.   :smt002  This next week is looking pretty flat, but we'll see when these winds calm down...  Memorial Day Weekend is a good possibility for an overnighter on the beach if conditions allow.  I know Hawk is wanting to hook up on an off-day for him (he's busy with tours weekends...)  Keep in touch, NCKA brothers!
