Headed up to the Loch Monday morning, (on the water by 9am) trolled a yellow 3/8oz roostertail behind some mini flashers out to the damm, no bites.  Buddy arrived, we then headed towards the narrows, stopped at a few of the cattails to look for bluegil, but the water was so clear, we could see 12' easy.  Did see many large bass partolling the shawllows! on our way back to the dock, my buddy landed 2 planters trolling a look-a-like kastmaster.  I was skunked!
Seems that I haven't had any luck since I lost my fav rod/reel combo into the drink last season :smt010
Oh well.  I know the "skunk" will lift eventually.

Does nothing for my confidence right now though!

You know, I think Loch Lomond gets the short end of the stick when it comes to stocking.  Other places like Shadow Cliffs are stocked I believe independently, as well as DFG.  My first few trips out the Loch Lomond this year were similar to your experience.  IT is a beautiful lake, which I love to visit many times during the summer.  For the last 4 years I have been there opening day each time, and the opening days were dismal at best.   But later in the summer it seems that stocked trout are indeed plentiful enough.  Taken limit many a time there from the shore.  I just wish they were open all year round, and stocked more than every three weeks.  This jewel of a lake use to be un-heard of by most, but it has been quite crowded in recent years.

IT is a beautiful lake,

I second that  :smt045 The few times I've paddled this lake, I almost feel like I'm up in the Sierras. Haven't done any good fishing at his lake but I do enjoy the scenery and the fact that they don't allow any gas powered boats  :smt002

Del Valle has been my choice but paying 12 bucks and sharing the water with some bone heads behind motorized boats kinda ruins the moment  :smt011

I didn't think you could say any kind words about the Loch without your heart breaking over your rig that you lost to the Loch last year... I still say you pussed out by not going in after it... and you want to dive this year... go figure???

That sure was a nice rig too... poor you... suckaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

I think a 3/8 roostertail is too big for planters. I like the 1/16th model. if you have the flashers, you can go tiny on the lure.

Well, that's my latest DFG-planter trolling theory...
