Humboldt Rockfishing next week

Long-range forecasts are showing some nice flat water showing up midweek (Wednesday the 9th - thanks, Frank!).  If the wind is light it could be epic.  I'll get back on here with updated conditions later...

I'm really hoping the wind will die down because it now looks like flat water is on its way by later next week.  Check out the swell gradients for next Thursday at 5AM!  

PS:  the wind is holding off north of the Cape tomorrow, so I'm heading out of Humboldt Bay with my dad on his PB - hopefully we get into some salmon for opening day up here and I'll be able to get back with some info that we can use in the near future for yakking.

Al Roker illustrated how an "Omega Block" occured with our weather, nationally this weekend.  The configuration of highs and lows created a real woopty-do of a jet stream that caused weather to stall and the horrible tornadoes to happen in Kansas.  Here it seems to have caused the strong winds to pause a bit as today is forecast for pretty light winds where 2 days ago they'd said it would be 20-30.  So the Flat-Ass-Calm water is reportedly coming our way by this Friday and Saturday - check this out!
