Take the preventative measures seriously

I was helping a friend in the burned out zone in east Napa yesterday. He lost detached garage and all of the land surrounding his house was burned, but his house was ok. Even with the N95 masks on and tightly fit around our noses and mouths, we both had a sore throat after less than an hour. We had planned to look for more items but cut the day short due to the health risks.

Sadly, we found both of his kayaks melted together into a mass about the size of a coffee table top.

It would be interesting to know if there's a difference in symptoms for firefighters on forest fires vs one like this where it's a different mix of toxins and particulates

We're in an area where it's been relatively mild smoke the last couple of days, we went up to Oakland last night and big difference as soon as we hit the Dumbarten Bridge, low vis and the sore throats were back

We visit Beijing regularly, the air there on any given day ranges from what it was yesterday in Oakland to indescribably bad, think visibility of murky water and toxic taste/smell that you can't get away from. I read that there are 7 year olds getting lung cancer there

What you feel in your throat from exposure is happening in your lungs too. Lung tissue has no pain enervation so you experience it as different symptoms

Sore throat is like an early warning system

I "wish " it was like that here in Santa Rosa..not to be grandiose..but that ain`t nothing like the  the last few days

Oh, it's definitely way worse the closer you get.  I was in Fairfield yesterday and I had to wear a mask in the car with the windows rolled up and the air running through the cabin filter.  I just thought it was crazy how thick the air streams were 50+ miles away.

Definitely. Once I started N on 680 I could feel myself getting physically sick.  Nausea, headache, sore throat.  My final destination was a conference room separated by three our four walls from the outside and there was a distinct increase in the smoke as I went through each door when leaving at the end of the day.

the more I watch the weather reports  reminds of a sump ..all the bad collecting else where and settling

The air is still brown at my job site here in West Oakland today... Staying inside the office trailer as much as possible, and wearing the N95 when I have to venture out...
