hightide, for a FF battery i use the "new school battery pack" - 10 AA 2700 maha rechargeables and holder  (from Thomas Distributors) inside a Pelican Box (Outdoor Pro Shop has them), get a wire seal from somewhere (West Marine?), drilled a hole in the top of the pelican box, mount the wire seal, run the cables through and  out and then mate them to the FF power cables with trailer hitch connectors, so it's removable from the yak.

It took me about 2 weeks from order to assembly, getting everything together, but it's a great lightweight supply.

there is a tutorial here
http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?page=19

You can search forum for "power supply" for more ideas and tips.

You can do the same for Scotty rodholders and mounting ideas.  there is a nice adjustable ram ball mount and tube rod holder out there too which is cool.

I used a ram ball mount to hold my FF top unit.  make sure the FF matches the mounting plate you get.

hope this helps!

I use an old school FF battery...  7 Amp 12V Gel style battery, wrapped in dry bag.  I got my battery from an old UPS I no longer use.  The UPS charges the battery.

It makes a lot of sense to take the boat out a few times to get a feel for where you want to mount everything.  Good luck - Kevin

This is really a rigging tip, but...

If you go to Berkeley soon, at Al Lasher Electric 1754 University between McGee and Grant, you can pick up the green/black trailer hitch style connectors for .50 each (get 4 or more, as you will likely replace them each year due to corrosion) and heat-shrink pink wire-to-wire connectors for .25 each (4 per setup).

They are almost out of the ones for .50 they got on closeout, and the next batch will cost more like 2.50 each.

Battery supply system is your choice, old or new school.
