How many hooks for salmon

Okay, I think I've gotten conflicting info on this topic. Yes, I understand we are supposed to use single barbless hooks, but someone told me it was okay to use an assist hook. Is that true?

I've also seen a tray anchovy technique of using 3 or 4 single hooks daisy-chained off each other, because the multiple hooks can be hooked into the chovy, helping to hold it together longer.
